Guided Exercise: Connect a ROSA Cluster to Red Hat Services

Show that managed clusters are preconfigured with a pull secret to Red Hat registries and monitor the cluster using the Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console.

Outcomes

  • Manage Red Hat OpenShift on AWS (ROSA) clusters from the Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager web console.

  • Use Red Hat Insights to list advisor recommendations and vulnerabilities for ROSA clusters.

Procedure 2.2. Instructions

  1. Log in to the OpenShift web console by using your GitHub credentials and then verify that your ROSA cluster can access the Operator Hub.

    1. Open a command-line terminal on your system and then run the rosa describe cluster command to retrieve the URL of the OpenShift web console.

$ rosa describe cluster --cluster do120-cluster
      ...output omitted...
      Console URL: https://console-openshift-console.apps.do120-cluster.jf96.p1.openshiftapps.com
      ...output omitted...

The URL in the preceding output is different on your system.

    2. Open a web browser, navigate to the OpenShift web console URL, and then click github-do120. If you are not already logged in to GitHub, then provide your GitHub credentials.

    3. Switch to the Administrator view and then navigate to OperatorsOperatorHub. A grid of operators from the Operator Hub is displayed, which confirms that ROSA granted access to the Operator Hub from your cluster. This is because you configured the rosa CLI with your Red Hat account.

  2. Log in to the Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console by using your Red Hat credentials, and then verify that the Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager displays your ROSA cluster.

    1. Use the web browser to navigate to https://console.redhat.com and then log in by using your Red Hat credentials.

    2. Select OpenShift to navigate to the OpenShift Cluster Manager.

    3. Navigate to Clusters to see the list of clusters. If your Red Hat account is part of an organization, then you might need to click View only my clusters to limit the view to the clusters that you created by using your account. Notice that your do120-cluster cluster is displayed, which confirms that ROSA registered your cluster with OpenShift Cluster Manager.

    4. Click the do120-cluster cluster and then navigate to Access controlIdentity providers. If you completed the exercise that adds the GitHub identity provider to your cluster, then that identity provider is displayed. Notice that you can also declare additional identity providers from that page, or modify the existing ones.

  3. Use Red Hat Insights to verify whether some advisories are available for your cluster. To do so, navigate to AdvisorClusters and then locate your cluster. Red Hat Insights might not have advisories for your cluster yet.

  4. Verify if Red Hat Insights has identified some vulnerabilities for your cluster. To do so, navigate to VulnerabilityClusters and then locate your cluster. Red Hat Insights might not have detected any vulnerability for your cluster yet.
