Summary

  • Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) is a joint offering between Red Hat and Amazon Web Services (AWS). It enables the creation of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (RHOCP) clusters on AWS.

  • The ROSA cluster creation process creates the required AWS infrastructure components, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances or Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes.

  • The management and support of ROSA clusters is shared between the customer, Red Hat, and Amazon Web Services.

  • Creating a ROSA cluster requires an AWS account with AWS Marketplace permissions to subscribe to ROSA.

  • To create a ROSA cluster, the AWS CLI (aws) and ROSA CLI (rosa) must be installed on an internet-connected workstation.

  • The ROSA cluster creation process does not create user accounts. You can create the cluster-admin administrator account by using the rosa create admin command. Red Hat recommends configuring an external identity provider for user management.
